Lately, I have been a quest to find things that will outlast the dollar. That is, things that will hold their value for a very long time no matter what happens in the world. To that end, I have come up with a list of things that literally have an indefinite shelf-life, which means you can store much, much more than you would need in a first in, first out “FIFO” shelf rotation stockpile. The excess can then be used as a hedge against hyper-inflation. Remember, in post-WWI Germany, the currency hyper-inflated so much that it too wheel barrels of fiat currency to buy the most basic food items. The following items are things you can stock up on excessively as a hedge against inflation and never worry about them going bad:
- Hard Liquor (Vodka, Whiskey, Rum, Gin, etc.)
- White Rice (Stored in Airtight Containers)
- Cornstarch (Stored in Airtight Containers)
- Mayonnaise (Unopened)
- Sugars (White, Brown, Powdered, etc. when Stored in Airtight Containers)
- Honey
- Clarified Butter (aka Ghee)
- Vanilla (Not Imitation)
- Vinegar
- Salt
